AI agent for farmers

Feed Inventory and Ration Agent

Keep enough feed on hand without overbuying, with rations matched to feed quality.

Feed Inventory and Ration Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Feed runs short at the worst time, or a big order sits unused. This agent tracks stock of each feed from deliveries and daily use. It counts animals by group and works out how many days of feed remain. It adjusts rations when a forage test shows lower quality, so the animals still get what they need. When stock falls below the lead time plus a safety margin, it drafts a purchase with quantity and suppliers. It then checks the next day's use against its forecast. The farmer approves orders. Edge case: if a new batch of hay tests low in protein, the agent changes the ration and shortens the days-left count.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It orders when days of feed fall below lead time plus a safety margin, using rations adjusted for tested quality.

  • Order when days left are below lead time plus 5 days
  • Adjust rations when protein or energy is 10 percent below target
  • Do not order more than storage can hold
  • Compare at least two suppliers

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Safety margin in days (default 5)
  • Storage limit
  • Rations per animal group
  • Suppliers to compare

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Farmer approves every purchase

Hard limits

  • Never place an order without approval
  • Never reduce rations below the animals' needs

It stops when

  • Done: stock covers the planning period
  • Stop: no supplier can deliver in time and the farmer decides

An example run

What happensThe herd uses 4.2 tonnes of silage a day and stock is 38 tonnes, 9 days, with a 7 day lead time and 5 day margin. That is below 12, so the agent drafts an order. A new lab test shows lower energy, so rations rise 6 percent and days left drop to 8. The order size grows. The farmer approves.
