AI agent for farmers
Frost and Heat Alert Action Agent
Take the right protective actions before a frost or heat event and learn from the result.
What it does
A frost warning is only useful if somebody acts before the temperature drops. This agent reads the forecast for each field and compares it with the crop stage, because the same low temperature harms a flowering orchard more than a dormant one. It lists the actions that fit, such as running irrigation, laying covers, lighting heaters or moving animals. It schedules the tasks and assigns them to workers. After the event it reads the actual overnight temperatures and checks whether the actions were enough, and records any damage. The farmer approves the action list. Edge case: a forecast low that is close to the crop's limit triggers actions even if the margin is small.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.
Read the steps as a list
- Alert or forecast crosses a threshold
- Read the forecast for each field
- Match it to the crop stage and damage threshold
- Is any field within the margin of its threshold? If not: Keep watching and recheck at the next update. Back to step 2.
- List protective actions per field
- Farmer approves the actionsThe agent waits here for your OK.
- Schedule tasks and assign workers
- Read actual temperatures overnight
- Did temperatures stay above the threshold in every field? If not: Add actions for the next night and note the damage. Back to step 5.
- Event record with actions and results
How it decides
It acts when the forecast comes within a margin of the crop's damage threshold at its current stage.
- Act when the forecast is within 2 degrees of the damage threshold
- Use stricter thresholds for flowering and fruit set
- Start irrigation protection before the temperature reaches freezing
- Record any damage seen the next morning
Make it yours
Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.
- Margin to the damage threshold (default 2 degrees)
- Thresholds by crop stage
- Actions available on the farm
- Who is assigned tasks
What keeps you in control
It always asks you first
- Farmer approves the action list
Hard limits
- Never start equipment on its own
- Never ignore a forecast within the margin
It stops when
- Done: actions are complete and results recorded
- Stop: the farmer cancels the actions
