AI agent for dietitians

Hydration and Food Intake Watch Agent

Daily intake meets the target, or the cause of low intake is found and acted on.

Hydration and Food Intake Watch Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Frail adults can eat and drink too little for days before anyone notices. The agent adds up the daily intake from the food and fluid log and compares it with the person's targets set by the dietitian. It flags low days and runs of low days, then looks for likely causes: the texture of the food, a mood change, a new medicine, an infection or mouth problems. It proposes one change at a time, such as softer meals, smaller portions more often or a preferred drink, and notes a date to recheck. If intake does not improve, it proposes the next change or advises contacting the professional. The caregiver or dietitian approves each change. Edge case: any sign of dehydration, such as dark urine or confusion, is told to a clinician at once.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It compares each day with the target and tests likely causes in order, one change at a time.

  • Below 50% for 1 day is urgent
  • Change one thing at a time
  • Signs of dehydration go to a clinician

An example run

What happensThe log shows 900 ml of fluid against a 1,500 ml target for 3 days. The agent notes the person said the water tastes odd after a new medicine and proposes flavored drinks and a small glass every hour. The caregiver approves. After 3 days intake is 1,100 ml, still low, so the agent proposes a soup and jelly option and suggests telling the dietitian.
