AI agent for corporate counsels
Legal Cross-Reference Repair Agent
Every cross-reference points to the clause it was meant to.
What it does
When clauses are renumbered, cross-references like 'see clause 7.2' break or silently point to a different topic. When a draft is renumbered or restructured, this agent maps each reference to the clause it originally meant, using the earlier version. It checks whether the new number points to the same subject. If not, it inspects the context and finds where the original clause moved. It patches the links in a copy, then validates every reference again after repagination. Substantive changes go to the lawyer. Edge case: clause 7.2 used to cover termination but now covers fees after a new clause was inserted, so the agent updates the reference to 7.3.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.
Read the steps as a list

- Resolve each reference to its original target
- Does the new number point to the same subject? If not: inspect context and find the moved clause. Back to step 2.

How it decides
It resolves references by original meaning, not by number, and checks context when meaning and number disagree.
- Find targets by meaning, not number.
- Substantive changes go to the lawyer.
- References to deleted clauses are never repointed by the agent.
