On-Farm Variety Trial Tracker Agent

A fair, documented comparison of each trial so the farmer can decide on evidence

On-Farm Variety Trial Tracker Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

On-farm trials often end with a hunch because the plots were not compared fairly. This agent sets up the trial plots and records seed, inputs, planting date and later yield or quality for each. It checks that conditions were comparable: soil, previous crop, planting date, and inputs should match except for the thing being tested. Where they do not, it flags the comparison as unfair and explains why. It gathers missing records from the farmer and recomputes the results when a record changes. It then writes a plain result with a confidence note. The farmer approves which variety or method is adopted. Edge case: one plot was planted nine days late, so the agent reports the result with and without that plot.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

A comparison is marked fair only when planting date, soil, previous crop and inputs differ by less than the set limits. Otherwise the result is reported with the gap named.

  • Planting dates should be within 5 days to count as fair
  • Treat different previous crops as a flag
  • Report both results when one plot is an outlier
  • Do not rank varieties on one season alone

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Fairness limits (default 5 days planting gap)
  • Crops and trial types tracked
  • Results format
  • Number of seasons before a recommendation

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • The adoption decision

Hard limits

  • Never recommend a switch on one season alone
  • Never alter recorded yields

It stops when

  • Done: trial summary approved
  • Stop: fewer than two comparable plots

An example run

What happensIn a bean trial, Variety B yielded 3.9 t/ha against 3.4 for A. The fairness check failed because B's plot 2 was planted 9 days late. The agent recalculated without plot 2 and got 3.7 versus 3.4. It reported both and recommended a second season. The farmer approved a small field test next year.
