AI agent for police officers

Property and Found Item Disposition Agent

Eligible items are noticed and released or disposed of lawfully, and nothing is disposed of while a hold applies.

Property and Found Item Disposition Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Held property piles up because each item has its own rule: some need a court hold cleared, some need notice to the owner, some can be auctioned or destroyed after a set period. The agent lists every item by age and case status, then checks the hold status, the notice rules and the owner contact on file. For items that are ready, it drafts owner notices and tracks replies, and for items with no owner it prepares the disposal list. Before any disposal it checks the case status again, because a case may have reopened. A supervisor approves every release or disposal. Edge case: a firearm or drugs item follows a separate rule set and is never put on the general disposal list.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It places each item in release, notice, hold or disposal based on case status and the statutory period, and rechecks status before any disposal.

  • Items with an active hold or open case are never disposed of
  • Notice period must pass before disposal
  • Weapons and drugs follow their own rule set
  • Owner reply stops disposal until resolved

An example run

What happensThe agent lists 140 items over 2 years old and finds 38 with closed cases. It drafts 22 owner notices and a disposal list of 16. Before disposal it rechecks case status and finds one case reopened last week, so it removes that item. Two owners reply to claim bags of recovered goods and the agent moves those items to release. The supervisor approves 15 disposals and the rest.
