AI agent for sustainability analysts
Renewable Energy Certificate Matching Agent
Market-based emissions claims where every certificate matches consumption by period, region and retirement status
What it does
Renewable energy certificates only support a claim if they match the electricity actually used, in the right period and region, and are retired in the claimant's name. This agent reads consumption by site and month, then matches certificates to it. It checks quality criteria, such as vintage, market boundary and resource type, confirms retirement status and looks for double counting across sites or years. It flags gaps and surpluses, and proposes purchases or reallocation. After changes, it recalculates market-based totals. The analyst approves the claims. Edge case: a certificate from last December is applied to January use, so the agent flags the vintage as outside the allowed window.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.
Read the steps as a list
- Consumption period closes
- Read consumption by site and month
- Read the certificate inventory and retirement records
- Match certificates to consumption by region and period
- Does every matched certificate meet vintage, region and quality criteria? If not: unmatch it and return the consumption to the uncovered list. Back to step 4.
- Check for double counting across sites and years
- Is every certificate used once and retired in the right name?If not: release the duplicate and recompute coverage. Back to step 4.
- Calculate uncovered consumption and market-based emissions
- Propose purchases or reallocation
- Analyst approves the claimsThe agent waits here for your OK.
- Certificate match report
How it decides
A certificate covers consumption only when region, vintage, quality and retirement status all match. Each certificate can be used once.
- Allow certificates only inside the standard's vintage window
- Match only within the same market boundary
- Count a certificate once
- Use the residual mix for uncovered consumption
Make it yours
Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.
- Vintage window
- Reporting standard
- Market boundaries
- Residual mix source
What keeps you in control
It always asks you first
- Public claims of renewable use
- Certificate purchases
Hard limits
- Never buys certificates
- Never makes a public renewable claim
It stops when
- Done: claims verified and approved
- Stop: retirement records are missing
