Series Arc Pacing Audit Agent

A season outline where every main arc advances at a deliberate pace and each setup has a payoff

Series Arc Pacing Audit Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

By episode 6 of ten, a mystery promised in the pilot has not moved and the romance thread appears only once. This agent reads the episode outlines and tracks each arc beat by character and storyline, such as a secret revealed, a relationship shift or a stake raised. It builds a map showing which episodes advance which arcs and flags episodes where no arc advances or where too many beats crowd together. It proposes moves, such as shifting a reveal earlier, splitting a beat across two episodes or planting a seed, then reruns the map to see the effect. It loops until each arc advances at a steady rate, and it checks that the season ending still pays off the setups. The writer approves outline changes. Edge case: a deliberate bottle episode that advances no arc is allowed if the writer marks it.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

An episode sags when it advances no main arc and is not marked as an exception. An arc stalls when it has no beat for 3 episodes.

  • Flag an arc with no beat in 3 consecutive episodes
  • Flag an episode with more than 4 major beats
  • Allow marked bottle episodes without arc beats
  • Require every main setup to pay off by the finale

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Arc list and priority
  • Gap that counts as a stall (default 3 episodes)
  • Maximum beats per episode
  • Exceptions
  • Outline format

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Writer approves each outline change

Hard limits

  • Never rewrite episodes, only propose outline moves
  • Keep the writer's marked exceptions

It stops when

  • Done: Every arc advances steadily and every setup pays off
  • Stop: The arcs cannot be balanced without changing the premise, so the agent describes the options

An example run

What happensIn a 10 episode outline, the mystery arc has beats in episodes 1, 2 and 7. The agent flags the gap and episode 5, which advances nothing. It proposes moving the clue from episode 7 to 4 and planting a seed in 5. After remapping, episode 4 now has 5 beats, so the agent shifts a relationship beat to 5. The writer approves both moves.
