AI agent for executive directors

Strategic Option Elimination Agent

A defensible list of strategic options that meet the hard constraints.

Strategic Option Elimination Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Strategy option lists keep alternatives that break hard constraints such as budget, capacity or regulation. Time is spent on options that could never happen. This agent retrieves feasibility evidence for each option and picks the unresolved constraint with the most power to decide. It checks that constraint against the rules and marks the option in, out or unknown. Missing evidence is recorded as unknown with a request for evidence, never as failure. New evidence can restore an option that was set aside. It keeps a traceable register with the source of each verdict. The executive team makes the final selection. Edge case: a constraint that is due to change, such as a pending regulation, is recorded with its date.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

Read the steps as a list
  1. Option list compiled
  2. Retrieve feasibility evidence per option
  3. Pick the unresolved constraint with most power to decide
  4. Check it against the constraint rules
  5. Is the option clearly in or out?If not: record 'unknown' and request the evidence. Back to step 3.
  6. Update the options register
  7. Executive team makes the final selectionThe agent waits here for your OK.
  8. Traceable strategic options register

How it decides

It investigates the constraint most likely to eliminate an option, and marks missing evidence as 'unknown' rather than 'failed'.

  • In, out or unknown: decided per constraint from evidence.
  • Unknown is not failure: request evidence instead of eliminating.
  • Restore an option when new evidence arrives.
  • Next constraint: the one most likely to settle an option.

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Hard constraints and their limits (default budget, capacity, regulation)
  • Evidence sources accepted per constraint
  • Deadline for evidence requests (default 10 business days)
  • Register format (default table with verdict, source and date)
  • Who makes the final selection (default the executive team)

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Final strategic selection

Hard limits

  • Missing evidence is not failure.

It stops when

  • Done: every option classified.

An example run

What happensIn an April 23 review of 5 expansion options, only one site's capacity is documented. The check for the second site fails to give a clear verdict, so the option stays unknown and the agent requests the capacity survey. A week later the survey shows 40% spare capacity, and the option moves to in. One option is out because it exceeds the $8 million budget. The executive team selects from three.
