Vocabulary Spaced Review Agent

Long-term vocabulary retention

Vocabulary Spaced Review Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Students forget new vocabulary unless they review it at growing intervals, and teachers cannot track that for every student. This agent takes each unit's word list, which the teacher approves, and schedules review for every student at set intervals. It sends short quizzes that use the words in context and records whether each word was recalled. Missed words reset to a shorter interval and come back sooner. Well-known words move to longer gaps. Each week the teacher gets a class report showing which words most students struggle with, so they can reteach them in class. Edge case: words with several meanings are tested in a sentence that shows the meaning that was taught, not in isolation, so a correct answer means real understanding.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

An example run

What happensUnit 3 began on February 3 with 20 words. The agent scheduled reviews at 2, 5 and 12 days. On day 5, student Ben Cho recalled only 11 of 20 words. The check failed, so the agent moved his 9 missed words back to a 2-day interval and sent a new quiz. He recalled 8 of 9. Teacher Ines Moreno reviewed the class report and approved reteaching 4 words that most students missed.
