AI agent for teaching assistants
Missing Work Recovery Agent
Every student has a clear catch-up plan, and missing work is turned in or formally excused.
What it does
After an absence or a busy week, a teacher cannot easily see who owes which assignment. The agent compares the gradebook with the attendance record, lists every missing or incomplete piece of work per student, and separates work missed because of an excused absence from work simply not done. For each student it builds a catch-up plan with realistic due dates that avoid test weeks and pile-ups, and drafts a note to the student or family. As work arrives it updates the gradebook list and the plan, and if a student falls behind the plan it rebuilds the dates. The teacher approves each message to families. Edge case: a student with a learning support plan gets extended dates from that plan, not the default.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.
Read the steps as a list
- Weekly run or long absence
- Read the gradebook, attendance and assignments
- List missing work per student and tag excused or not
- Build a catch-up plan with due dates that avoid test weeks
- Apply support plan accommodations
- Teacher approves messages to familiesThe agent waits here for your OK.
- Send the plan and update the tracker
- Read new submissions each week
- Is the student on track with the plan?If not: Rebuild the dates with the new workload, drop work the teacher excuses and draft a new note. Back to step 3.
- Is all work in or excused? If not: Carry the remaining items to next week and flag students at risk of a failing grade. Back to step 3.
- Catch-up tracker and risk list
How it decides
It treats excused absences as catch-up work and unexcused gaps as follow-up, and spaces due dates by workload.
- Excused absence: allow the same number of days plus 2 per missed day
- No more than 3 catch-up items due in one week
- Support plan dates override the default
- 3 weeks behind: flag to the teacher for a conference
Make it yours
Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.
- Maximum catch-up items per week (default 3)
- Extra days per missed day
- Which assignment types count
- Message tone
- Conference trigger in weeks
What keeps you in control
It always asks you first
- Teacher approves messages to families
- Teacher approves excusing any work
Hard limits
- Never message families without approval
- Never change grades, only the tracker
- Never expose one student's list to another
It stops when
- Done: all missing work is in or excused
- Stop: the teacher reassigns or removes the work
