About BetterClaw

BetterClaw is a no-code platform for building AI agents that run on a schedule. You connect tools like Gmail, Slack, or Telegram, describe what you want the agent to do, and it goes live without writing code or managing server hosting. The platform launched this week on Product Hunt and is built by a small team.

Review

BetterClaw sits in the same category as tools like n8n and Zapier, but it's focused specifically on AI agents rather than general automation workflows. The core pitch is that you can deploy an agent in about 60 seconds, bring your own LLM API key, and pay nothing for the platform itself. I've looked at what's actually shipped versus what's still in development, and there are some meaningful gaps worth knowing about before you commit.

Key Features

  • 60-second deployment - No Docker, no YAML, no VPS, no terminal. The setup process is timed and takes about 2-3 minutes for something like email triage.
  • 95+ one-click OAuth integrations - Gmail, Calendar, Slack, HubSpot, GitHub, Jira, Meta Ads, Linear, and more. These use real OAuth rather than webhook configurations.
  • Trust levels - Every agent starts as an "Intern" that asks permission before acting. You can manually promote it to "Specialist" or "Lead" as you become comfortable with its behavior. Promotion is manual, not automatic.
  • Secrets auto-purge - API keys and credentials are AES-256 encrypted and removed from agent memory after 5 minutes.
  • Heartbeat scheduling - Agents run on a schedule rather than continuously, so you can have one pull search data three times a week and drop a summary in Slack without checking a dashboard.

Pricing and Value

BetterClaw operates on a bring-your-own-key (BYOK) model. You supply your own LLM API key, and when paired with a free model like Gemini, OpenRouter, or Groq, your total cost is $0. The free tier includes 100 tasks, daily crons, and 1 agent. There's no trial countdown and no credit card required to start. A Pro tier exists, and a launch promotion offers 3 months of Pro for $49 with code PH3, but the regular Pro pricing is not clearly defined in the reference material. The team states the free tier is sustainable because agents run on small containers that cost them cents per user per month.

Pros

  • Setup is genuinely fast - multiple users report getting email triage live in 2-3 minutes from signup.
  • The Intern/Specialist/Lead trust model means agents don't get full system access on day one, which is uncommon in this category.
  • Agents report into Slack, Telegram, or email, so you don't need to keep another dashboard open to check on them.
  • OAuth tokens are proxied through third-party systems, so agents never handle them directly.
  • Rate limits from connected APIs are handled gracefully - the agent waits and retries, then escalates to a human if it can't resolve the issue.

Cons

  • The Chrome integration is in beta and trusts tool call responses too much. A click can resolve cleanly but navigate nowhere, and the agent won't catch it. The team acknowledges this and plans to keep browser actions gated at Intern level until post-action verification is built.
  • Trust levels are role-based rather than granular. You can't yet set custom rules like "always ask before anything leaves the company" or "ask on any action touching a VIP contact." That's the most requested feature from the launch thread, but it's not built.
  • The tool isn't well suited for teams that need automated browser actions at scale. If your workflows depend on Chrome automation running unattended at Lead level, you'll hit the verification gap and have to keep a human in the loop permanently.

BetterClaw is most useful for founders, ops teams, recruiters, and non-technical users who want scheduled agents handling repetitive tasks like inbox triage, morning briefings, or ROAS reporting. The free tier with your own API key makes it low-risk to test, and the manual trust levels give you control over how much autonomy an agent gets. If you need reliable browser automation or granular permission rules, you'll want to wait for those pieces to mature.
