Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Quick vegetarian pasta for tonight”, the Food Recipe MCP server connects it to Food.com recipes, and you get back matching recipes.

This is a helper that lets your AI search a big library of recipes from Food.com. You describe what you feel like cooking, and it finds matching recipes with ingredients and nutrition. It is handy for anyone who plans meals, cooks at home, or wants dinner ideas without browsing ten websites.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to a recipe search service with over 50,000 Food.com recipes. When you ask for dinner ideas, your AI asks this helper, and the helper looks through the recipes and sends back matches.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like quick vegetarian pasta for tonight. Your AI sends that request to this helper, which searches a large collection of Food.com recipes. The helper looks for recipes that match your words and any filters you gave, like diet, cooking time, or difficulty. It then picks the best matches and sends them back. Your AI shows you the results in the chat, with ingredients, cooking time, and nutrition.

What you can do with it

  • Find recipes by describing a dish or a mood, like cozy winter soup
  • Filter recipes by diet such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or keto
  • Limit results by total cooking time in minutes
  • Filter by difficulty, from easy to hard
  • Search in English or Norwegian
  • Get ingredients, instructions, servings and nutrition per recipe
  • See ratings and how many people rated each recipe

Try asking your AI

  • “Find me an easy vegetarian pasta I can make in 30 minutes”
  • “I want a traditional Norwegian kjøttkaker recipe”
  • “Show me a healthy high-protein chicken bowl for lunch”
  • “Quick chocolate cake recipe for beginners, under an hour”

What it gives back to you

You get a list of matching recipes, usually five unless you ask for more. Each one comes with a title, short description, total time, difficulty, diet tags, main ingredient, servings, ingredients, instructions, and nutrition per serving. You also see the rating and how many people rated it. Your AI can then summarize them or help you pick one.

Before you start
