ERC-8004 Agent Discovery MCP server

by Claynsn

Let your AI find on-chain agents by skill and pay them in USDC when you ask.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Find agents that can summarize text”, the ERC-8004 Agent Discovery MCP server connects it to 8004scan, and you get back A list of agents, or their answer.

This is a small helper program that connects your AI assistant to a public registry of on-chain agents. You can ask your AI to find agents that do a certain job, look at their details, and even pay one to do work for you in USDC. It is handy if you are curious about the new world of AI agents that live on blockchains and charge small fees for tasks.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to the ERC-8004 agent registry and to a payment system called x402, so it can look up agents and pay them when you ask. You install it once, and then your AI can use it like any other tool.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like find agents that can summarize text. Your AI passes that request to this helper. The helper asks a public website called 8004scan for matching agents and hands the list back to your AI. If you then ask your AI to call one of those agents and pay up to a certain amount, the helper sends the request, and if the agent asks for payment, your wallet signs a small USDC payment and tries again. You get the agent's answer back in your chat.

What you can do with it

  • Search for on-chain agents by skill keyword, like summarization or price feed
  • Filter results to only agents that say they support x402 payments
  • Look up a specific agent's full registration card and services
  • Call an agent's web address and pay it in USDC if it asks
  • Set a maximum amount of USDC you are willing to pay per call
  • Choose which blockchain to use, like Base or Ethereum mainnet

Try asking your AI

  • “Find me 5 agents on Base mainnet that can do text summarization, only ones supporting x402.”
  • “Show me the full card for agent 25886 on Base.”
  • “Call agent 25886 at its endpoint with this article and pay up to 0.05 USDC.”
  • “Find agents that do code review and tell me which ones accept USDC payments.”

What it gives back to you

Before you start

Good to know

The payment tool spends real USDC from your wallet, so set a low maximum amount and use a wallet you do not mind spending from.
