Unity MCP server

by CoderGamester

Lets your AI assistant look at and change things inside your Unity game project for you.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to the Unity game engine. It lets the AI see your scene, your objects, and your console, and make changes to them when you ask. It is handy if you are building a game in Unity and want a hand with the fiddly, repetitive parts.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app, and here it connects your AI to Unity. Once it is set up, the AI can look things up in your Unity project or do things there for you when you ask. You stay in charge; the AI just carries out the steps you tell it to.

What this MCP server does

You type a request in your AI assistant, like asking it to create an empty object or move the player. The AI passes that request to this helper, which talks to the Unity Editor on your computer. Unity then does the work, such as adding a component, saving a scene, or running a test. The result comes back to your chat so you can see what happened. It is like having a second pair of hands inside the editor.

What you can do with it

  • Create, rename, move, rotate, and delete objects in your scene
  • Add or change components, like a Rigidbody or a tag
  • Create and load scenes, and save the current one
  • Create prefabs and add assets from your project into the scene
  • Create and change materials, including colors and shader settings
  • Read the Unity console logs and run your project tests
  • Start, pause, or step through play mode

Try asking your AI

  • “Create an empty GameObject called Enemy_1 and place it at position 0, 0, 0”
  • “Add a Rigidbody to the Player object and set its mass to 5”
  • “Show me the last 20 error logs from the Unity console”
  • “Create a new scene called Level1 in the Scenes folder and save it”

What it gives back to you

You get answers back in your chat, in plain words. That might be a list of objects in your scene, the details of one object and its components, recent console logs, or a short note that a change was made. When the AI creates or edits something, it tells you what it did so you can check it in Unity.

Before you start

What you need

  • Unity 6 or later installed on your computer
  • Node.js 18 or later (a free program that runs the helper)
  • The MCP Unity package added to your Unity project
  • An AI assistant that supports MCP, like Claude Code, Cursor, or VS Code

Good to know

It can change or delete things in your Unity project, including scenes and objects, so save your work and keep backups before letting the AI make changes.

Install it with your AI

Add Unity MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Unity MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
