Enigma Python MCP server
Encrypt and decrypt messages with a historically accurate Enigma machine inside your AI chat.

This is a small helper that lets your AI use a faithful copy of the famous World War II Enigma machine. You can ask it to turn a message into secret code or to decode an old coded message. It is handy for history fans, puzzle solvers, and anyone curious about how Enigma worked.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a little helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This helper connects your AI to the enigmapython library, which is a set of Enigma machine emulators. So when you ask your AI to encrypt or decrypt something, it can actually do it using this helper.
What this MCP server does
You type a request like 'Encrypt TOPSECRET with an Enigma M3'. Your AI reads your instructions and passes them to this helper. The helper sets up the Enigma machine with the rotors, positions, and plugboard you asked for. It runs your message through the machine and gives the result back. Your AI then shows you the coded or decoded text in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Encrypt a message with any of the supported Enigma models
- Decrypt a coded message using the correct settings
- Choose specific rotors, ring settings, and starting positions
- Add plugboard swaps to match historical setups
- Try different Enigma models like M3, M4, Enigma I, and more
- Experiment with historical messages and see how they decode
Try asking your AI
- “Encrypt the message HELLO WORLD using an Enigma M3 with rotors III, II, I, all starting at position 0, ring settings 0, reflector UKWB, and no plugboard.”
- “Decrypt this Enigma I message: GCDSEAHUGWTQGRK. Rotors III, I, II with ring settings 21, 12, 23 and initial positions 11, 1, 0. Reflector UKWA. Plugboard swaps: A/M, F/I, N/V, P/S, T/U, W/Z.”
- “Use the Enigma M4 to encrypt DIVE DIVE DIVE with reflector UKWBThin, rotors VIII (pos 2), III (pos 6), IV (pos 12), and Gamma (pos 21). All ring settings 0.”
- “What would the Enigma K with rotors I, II, III at positions 0,0,0 and reflector UKWB produce for the message TEST?”
What it gives back to you
You get back the encrypted or decrypted text as a plain string. For example, if you ask to encrypt TOPSECRET, the AI will show you something like 'XYZABC123'. It may also repeat the settings it used so you can check them. The result appears right in your chat window.
Before you start
What you need
- Python 3.11 or newer (if you run it directly)
- Docker (if you prefer the Docker version)
- The Claude desktop app or another MCP-compatible AI client
Good to know
This tool only does encryption and decryption, so it cannot harm your files or spend money. Just be careful not to share real secrets if you are using a public AI service.
Install it with your AI
Add Enigma Python MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Enigma Python MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
History buffs, puzzle lovers, and anyone curious about cryptography who wants to play with Enigma machines through their AI.
