SimBrief MCP server

by Emanuele94

Lets your AI read your SimBrief flight plans: weather, fuel, weights, navlog, NOTAMs and more.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “What's the weather for my next flight?”, the SimBrief MCP server connects it to SimBrief, and you get back plain answers in your chat.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to your SimBrief account. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI about your latest flight plan and it will pull the details for you. It is handy if you fly on flight simulators and use SimBrief to plan your flights.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to SimBrief, so it can look up your flight plans and read the details for you. You ask in normal words, and the helper fetches the answer from SimBrief.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your flight plan, like the weather or the fuel breakdown. The AI uses this helper, which logs into SimBrief with your Pilot ID and pulls the information. SimBrief sends back the details, and the helper passes them to your AI. Your AI then explains them to you in the chat, in plain words. If you do not name a specific plan, it always grabs your latest one.

What you can do with it

  • Get a summary of your latest flight plan
  • Check the weather (METAR, TAF, ATIS) for departure, arrival and alternate
  • See the full fuel breakdown and weights
  • Read the ATC flight plan string ready for filing
  • List the waypoints in your navlog
  • Look at NOTAMs and alternate airport details
  • Check takeoff and landing performance if available

Try asking your AI

  • “What's my latest flight plan?”
  • “Show me the weather for my next flight.”
  • “How much fuel do I have planned and what's the breakdown?”
  • “Give me the full ATC flight plan string.”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, like a short summary of your flight, a list of waypoints, or a fuel breakdown. Some tools return longer lists, such as all NOTAMs or the full navlog. You can also ask for the complete raw flight plan if you want to dig into the numbers yourself.

Before you start

What you need

  • A free SimBrief account
  • Your SimBrief Pilot ID (found under Account Settings)
  • Python 3.11 or newer
  • The uv tool installed on your computer

Good to know

It only reads your SimBrief plans, so it will not change or delete anything, but it does need your Pilot ID stored in the config file.

Install it with your AI
