Finlynq MCP server
by finlynq
Connect your AI to your Finlynq money app so it can look up and update your accounts, budgets, and goals.

Finlynq is a personal finance app where you track your income, spending, budgets, investments, loans, subscriptions, and savings goals. It comes with its own MCP server, which is the piece that lets an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT read and manage that information for you. It is handy if you already keep your money details in Finlynq and want to ask questions or make changes by chatting instead of clicking around.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app, and here that app is Finlynq. Once it is connected, your AI can look things up in your Finlynq account, like your recent spending or your budget, and also make changes when you ask. You do not need to understand how it works under the hood; you just connect it once and then talk to your AI as usual.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your money, for example how much you spent on groceries last month. The AI sends that request to the Finlynq MCP server, which talks to your Finlynq account. Finlynq looks up the answer in your data and sends it back through the helper to your AI. Your AI then tells you the answer in plain words, or makes the change you asked for, like adding a transaction or adjusting a budget.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Ask how much you spent in a category this month
- Add or edit a transaction
- Check your budget and see what is left
- Look up your loans, subscriptions, and goals
- Import transactions from a CSV or bank file
- See your investment portfolio value
- Create or update a savings goal
Try asking your AI
- “How much did I spend on eating out last month?”
- “Add a 42 euro grocery expense from yesterday.”
- “Am I over budget on anything this month?”
- “Show me my subscriptions and what they cost per year.”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, like totals, lists of transactions, budget summaries, or a short note that a change was made. If you ask for something like a spending breakdown, the AI replies with the numbers and a short explanation. When you add or edit something, it confirms what it changed. Everything stays in your normal chat window.
Before you start
What you need
- A Finlynq account, either the free hosted one at finlynq.com/cloud or your own self-hosted copy
- For the hosted version, you just paste the connector address into your AI app
- For the self-hosted version, Docker installed on your computer and three secret keys you generate yourself
- An AI app that supports MCP, like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or Windsurf
Good to know
The AI can change or delete your financial records and import files, so check what it did after it acts, and keep your Finlynq password and any API key private.
Install it with your AI
