This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to your Signal messages. It runs on your own computer and keeps a copy of your chats in a local file, so your AI can search them and answer questions about them. It is handy if you use Signal a lot and want to catch up or find things without scrolling.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, here a connection to your Signal account. Once it is set up, your AI can look through your Signal messages and, if you allow it, send messages for you. You just ask in normal words and the helper does the work behind the scenes.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your Signal chats, like what you missed or where a certain word was mentioned. The AI passes that request to this helper on your computer. The helper talks to signal-cli, the program that actually connects to Signal, and looks in the local copy of your messages it keeps. Then it hands the answer back to your AI, which shows it to you in the chat. If you ask it to send something, it does that too.

What you can do with it

  • Search all your Signal messages by keyword
  • List your conversations with unread counts and last messages
  • Read the history of a chat with one person or a group
  • Send a message or a file to a contact or group
  • React to, edit, pin, or delete messages
  • Import your history from Signal Desktop
  • Export a conversation as a file

Try asking your AI

  • “What did I miss on Signal while I was offline?”
  • “Find every message mentioning the invoice”
  • “Summarize my week with Marco and draft a reply”
  • “Send the team: standup in 5 minutes”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in plain chat: lists of messages, summaries, unread counts, or a confirmation that something was sent. Search results come back as matching messages with who sent them and when. When you ask it to change something, like sending or reacting, it tells you it was done.
