Vitamin D Explorer MCP server

by JaviMaligno

Ask your AI whether the sun can make vitamin D where you are, how long you need, and which months work.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Can I make vitamin D today in Vilnius?”, the Vitamin D Explorer MCP server connects it to Vitamin D Explorer, and you get back minutes and best hour.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Vitamin D Explorer, an app that works out how much vitamin D your skin can make from sunlight. It is handy if you are curious about sun exposure, live far from the equator, or keep hearing the same vague "get 15 minutes of sun" advice that does not fit your skin type or your city.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives it a new skill or a connection to an app, and here that app is Vitamin D Explorer. Once it is connected, your AI can look up sun and UV information for a place and a skin type, and answer your question with real numbers instead of a guess. You just ask in normal words, and the helper does the looking up.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like whether you can make vitamin D today in your city. The AI passes that question to this helper, which talks to the Vitamin D Explorer service. That service works out the sun position, the UV level and what your skin type can realistically make. The answer comes back into your chat as plain numbers and a short explanation, like how many minutes you would need and which hour is best.

What you can do with it

  • Find a city and its coordinates in any of six languages
  • Check sunrise, sunset, solar noon and golden hour times for a day
  • See how many minutes of sun you need today for your skin type
  • See which months of the year vitamin D synthesis is possible at your latitude
  • Check whether right now is a good moment, using live UV and cloud data
  • Estimate what a sun session produced in IU and how long until burning
  • Save and review your own sun sessions if you sign in

Try asking your AI

  • “I'm in Vilnius, skin type II. Can I make vitamin D today?”
  • “Which months of the year can I get vitamin D in London?”
  • “I was out 25 minutes at noon in Madrid, arms and legs bare. How much did I make?”
  • “When's golden hour in Lisbon on Friday?”

What it gives back to you

You get short, readable answers in the chat: a yes or no, a number of minutes, a best hour, or a list of months that work and months that do not. It can also give you sun times like sunrise and sunset, and an estimate in IU for a session you describe. If you sign in, it can show your saved profile, favourite cities and past sun sessions.

Before you start
