Chainlist MCP server

by kukapay

Look up blockchain details like chain IDs, RPC links, explorers and native tokens from Chainlist.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “What is the native token of chain ID 137?”, the Chainlist MCP server connects it to Chainlist, and you get back chain details in your chat.

This is a small helper that lets your AI look up information about blockchains. It pulls verified details from Chainlist.org, a public list of blockchain networks. It is handy if you work with crypto, wallets or Web3 tools and often need to check a chain ID or a network link.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Chainlist.org, a public directory of blockchain networks. Once it is connected, you can just ask your AI about a blockchain and it will look it up for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question about a blockchain, for example its name or its chain ID. The AI passes that question to this helper. The helper fetches the matching details from Chainlist.org and formats them neatly. Then your AI shows you the answer in the chat, with the chain name, ID, native token, RPC links and explorer links.

What you can do with it

  • Look up a blockchain by its chain ID
  • Search for blockchains by a keyword in the name
  • See the native token of a chain and how many decimals it has
  • Get a list of RPC endpoints for a chain
  • Find the block explorer links for a chain
  • Compare a few chains side by side in one answer

Try asking your AI

  • “Get the details for the blockchain with chain ID 1.”
  • “Find blockchains with eth in their name, limit to 2 results.”
  • “What is the native token of chain ID 137?”
  • “Show me the RPC endpoints and explorers for Polygon.”

What it gives back to you

You get a short, tidy answer in the chat. It usually includes the chain name, its chain ID, the native token, the RPC links and the explorer links, often in a small table. If nothing matches, you get a short message saying so. You do not get files or downloads, just readable text.

Before you start

What you need

  • Python 3.10 or newer
  • The uv tool (a helper for running Python programs)
  • The Claude desktop app or another app that supports MCP servers

Good to know

The information comes from Chainlist.org, so it is only as fresh and correct as that public list.

Install it with your AI

Add Chainlist MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Chainlist MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
