wg-easy MCP server
by ni-c
Lets your AI manage your own WireGuard VPN clients: create, disable, delete, and fetch configs or QR codes.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to your own wg-easy setup, which is a friendly web page for running a WireGuard VPN. Once connected, you can ask your AI in plain words to add a new VPN client for a colleague, switch one off, or hand you a QR code. It is handy for anyone who runs a small VPN for a team or family and does not want to click through the admin page every time.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill or one new connection. This helper connects your AI to your wg-easy instance, the web tool that manages your WireGuard VPN. So when you ask your AI to add a VPN client, it can actually go and do that in your wg-easy setup for you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like add a VPN client called laptop. Your AI passes that request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper logs in to your wg-easy web page and creates the client there. Then it brings the answer back into your chat, so you see the new client and can ask for its config file or QR code. For anything that changes or hands out a key, the helper first asks you to confirm.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List all your VPN clients with their status and traffic numbers
- Create a new VPN client with a name you choose
- Turn a client on or off without deleting it
- Delete a client you no longer need
- Get a client's WireGuard config file
- Get a client's config as a QR code to scan on a phone
- Create a one-time download link for a config, valid five minutes
Try asking your AI
- “List all my VPN clients and show which ones are enabled”
- “Create a new VPN client called office-laptop”
- “Disable the client called old-phone”
- “Give me the QR code for the client called my-tablet”
What it gives back to you
You get answers written in the chat, like a list of clients with their names, status and traffic, or the full details of one client. When you ask for a config file or a QR code, the helper hands that back too, so you can copy it or scan it. It also tells you what it changed, for example that a client was created or disabled. Server information comes back with secrets hidden.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js version 22 or newer on your computer
- A running wg-easy version 15 or newer instance
- The address, username and password of a wg-easy admin account
- Two-factor login turned off for that account, because the wg-easy API does not support it
Good to know
This helper can create, change and permanently delete your VPN clients, and it can hand out private keys, so only connect it to a wg-easy account you trust and keep the approval prompts on.
Install it with your AI
Add wg-easy MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check wg-easy MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who run their own small WireGuard VPN through wg-easy and want to manage it by chatting instead of clicking through the admin page.
