OilPriceAPI MCP server

by OilpriceAPI · official

Ask your AI for live oil, gas and fuel prices, and it looks them up for you.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “What is the current price of Brent crude?”, the OilPriceAPI MCP server connects it to OilPriceAPI, and you get back price shown in chat.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to OilPriceAPI, a service that tracks energy prices like Brent crude, natural gas, diesel and jet fuel. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI for a price in normal words and it fetches the number for you. It is handy if you follow energy markets, work in logistics or shipping, or just want quick fuel prices without opening a website.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an outside service. This one connects your AI to OilPriceAPI, so when you ask about oil or gas prices, your AI can actually go and look them up. You do not have to understand how it works inside; you just add it once and then talk to your AI as usual.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like the current price of Brent crude. Your AI passes that question to this helper, which talks to OilPriceAPI over the internet. OilPriceAPI sends back the latest price, and the helper hands it to your AI. Your AI then shows you the answer in the chat, in plain words. You can also ask for history, futures, marine fuel prices and more, depending on your account.

What you can do with it

  • Look up the current spot price of a commodity like Brent, WTI or natural gas
  • Compare two to five commodities side by side and see the difference
  • Get historical prices with high, low, average and change over a day, week, month or year
  • Check front-month futures and the full forward curve for oil, gas and carbon
  • See marine bunker fuel prices by port and fuel type
  • Get retail diesel prices for any US state
  • Ask for market briefs and set up price alerts

Try asking your AI

  • “What is the current price of Brent crude?”
  • “Compare WTI and Brent for me right now”
  • “Show me the diesel price in Texas”
  • “What did natural gas do over the last month?”

What it gives back to you

You get answers right in the chat, in normal sentences and small lists. Prices come with the time they were recorded, so you know how fresh they are. If you ask for a comparison or a history, your AI shows a short table or summary. Some tools also explain what your account can and cannot see.
