Tripadvisor MCP server

by pab1it0

Let your AI look up Tripadvisor hotels, restaurants, attractions, reviews and photos for you.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Find top-rated hotels in Rome for a family of four”, the Tripadvisor MCP server connects it to Tripadvisor, and you get back places, ratings and reviews.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Tripadvisor. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things like "find good seafood restaurants in Lisbon" and it will pull real Tripadvisor results for you. It is handy for anyone planning a trip or helping others plan one.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Tripadvisor, so it can search places, read reviews and grab photos when you ask. You never touch the helper directly; your AI does that part for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a travel question in plain words. Your AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper talks to the Tripadvisor Content API, which is Tripadvisor's official way for apps to ask for their data. Tripadvisor sends back matching places, details, reviews or photos, and your AI shows you the answer right in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Search Tripadvisor for hotels, restaurants and attractions
  • Get details about a specific place, like its address and rating
  • Read reviews people left for a place
  • See photos of a place
  • Find places near a set of map coordinates
  • Filter searches by category or other options

Try asking your AI

  • “Find top-rated hotels in Rome for a family of four”
  • “Show me reviews for the Eiffel Tower”
  • “What restaurants are near these coordinates: 48.8584, 2.2945”
  • “Get photos of the Louvre Museum”

What it gives back to you

You get back lists of places, short descriptions, ratings, review text and photo links, all shown as normal chat answers. Your AI can summarize the results, compare a few places, or just hand you the raw list. Nothing is changed on Tripadvisor; it only reads information.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Tripadvisor Content API key from the Tripadvisor Developer Portal (a kind of password for apps; the site gives you one)
  • The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP servers
  • For the standard setup: the uv tool installed on your computer
  • For the Docker setup: Docker installed on your computer

Good to know

It only reads Tripadvisor data, so it will not change or delete anything, but you do need your own API key and Tripadvisor may limit how many requests you can make.

Install it with your AI
