LRCLIB MCP server
by smeet666
Let your AI look up song lyrics and time-synced lines from the free LRCLIB database.

This is a small helper that connects your AI chat to LRCLIB, a free public database of song lyrics. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to find a song and read its words, or give you the lines with timestamps so you can follow along like karaoke. It is handy if you often look up lyrics while writing, listening, or working on music.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill or one new connection. This helper connects your AI to LRCLIB, the free lyrics database, so it can search songs and read their words for you. You just ask in normal words, and the AI does the looking up.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like find the lyrics of a song. The AI passes your request to this helper, which searches LRCLIB by title, artist, or album. LRCLIB sends back a list of matching tracks with their details, and the helper hands that to your AI. Then the AI can read the plain lyrics or the time-synced lines for the track you picked, and show them to you in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search for a song by title, artist, or album
- Read the plain lyrics of a track
- Read time-synced lyrics with timestamps for each line
- Check which versions of a song exist and how long each one is
- See whether a track has synced lyrics before asking for them
- Read long lyrics in parts, a slice at a time
- Look up the details of one track by its id
Try asking your AI
- “Find me the lyrics of Le Sud by Nino Ferrer.”
- “Give me the timed lyrics of Bohemian Rhapsody so I can follow along.”
- “Which versions of Hallelujah are on LRCLIB, and how long is each one?”
- “Does track 3396226 have synced lyrics?”
What it gives back to you
You get back the words of the song, either as plain text or as lines with the moment each one is sung. You also get the track details: title, artist, album, duration, and a link to its LRCLIB page. If the lyrics are long, they come in parts and your AI can read on from where it stopped. If a song is instrumental or has no lyrics filed, the helper says so plainly.
