At its annual conference in Washington, D.C., Nutanix unveiled the general availability of its Cloud-Native AOS operating system. This hypervisor-independent solution extends core hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) deployments and supports cloud-native applications such as Kubernetes. According to Nutanix CEO Rajiv Ramaswami, this move signals a deeper push into cloud and edge environments, providing customers with more deployment choices for modern workloads.

Insight No. 1: Nutanix's AI Strategy Centers on Agents and a Threefold Approach

The latest Nutanix Enterprise AI platform release features tighter integration with Nvidia NIM Microservices and the Neural Modules AI framework. This enables customers to build and run agentic AI workloads—intelligent systems capable of autonomous planning and action—across both on-premises and cloud infrastructures.

Tarkan Maner, Nutanix’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted that these AI workloads can run at massive scale. For example, a financial services client is deploying an agentic fraud detection application utilizing thousands of cores distributed via an agent-based model that incorporates security and automation.

Nutanix’s Chief AI Officer, Debo Dutta, explained the company's threefold AI strategy:

  • AI on Nutanix: Delivering the best agentic AI platform optimized for Nutanix infrastructure.
  • AI at Nutanix: Leveraging AI internally to optimize Nutanix’s own operations.
  • AI in Nutanix: Enhancing Nutanix products through AI capabilities.

This approach ensures that AI readiness does not compromise workload flexibility, even as organizations scale across hybrid and multicloud environments.

Insight No. 2: Strategic Partnerships Accelerate Software-Defined Architectures and Hybrid Cloud Solutions

Collaborations with Dell Technologies and Google are driving Nutanix’s vision for software-defined infrastructure and hybrid cloud clusters. In April, Dell and Nutanix launched a combined solution integrating Dell PowerFlex with the Nutanix Cloud Platform. This gives customers a unified platform for scalable storage and compute, automated management, and enhanced workload flexibility.

Lee Caswell, SVP of Product and Solutions Marketing at Nutanix, emphasized the importance of choice and software-defined, server-based architectures as foundational for modern IT environments.

Nutanix’s partnership with Google extends this offering further. The Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) leverage Google’s bare metal services to provide faster application migration and modernization, enabling a consistent operating model across hybrid and multicloud setups.

Kelly Ciccone from Google Cloud pointed out that many customers run data on-premises, use Google Cloud for AI training, and rely on other cloud providers like AWS for inferencing. Nutanix acts as the management layer simplifying these complex workflows.
