Collaboration in AI and Biotechnology to Improve Healthcare
The Indonesian Health Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Del Technology Institute (IT Del) to strengthen collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) and biotechnology. This partnership aims to enhance the healthcare system by combining research, development, and practical application efforts across the three institutions.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin emphasized the importance of domestic innovation, stating, "We cannot always depend on foreign technology. We must be able to create our own innovative measures, particularly in healthcare, which is very strategic."
Scope of the Collaboration
- Joint research procedures in AI and biotechnology
- Utilization and analysis of health data and information
- Use of biological materials in biotechnology research
- Sharing facilities and infrastructure among the institutions
- Development and enhancement of human resources and talent in relevant fields
By pooling resources, skills, and infrastructure, the collaboration sets a foundation for advancing healthcare technology tailored to Indonesiaβs unique needs.
Long-Term Vision and Ethical Standards
Minister Sadikin views this initiative as a long-term investment in national human resources. Developing expertise in AI and biotechnology will better prepare Indonesia to address future healthcare challenges. He highlighted the potential impact of smartly combining national health data with AI technology, which could lead to significant improvements in public healthcare outcomes.
The MoU also stresses the importance of ethics, transparency, and trust. All activities under this partnership must comply with Indonesian laws to prevent conflicts of interest and data misuse. The minister affirmed, "All of this collaboration must be carried out with good intentions, for the good of Indonesians."
