AI as an Assistant, Not a Boss: CSR Leaders Encourage Government School Teachers to Embrace AI

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) professionals active in Karnataka's education sector are urging government school teachers to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool to enhance teaching quality. This message came during a panel discussion at the Tech for a Better Tomorrow conclave, hosted at the International Institute of Information Technology-Bangalore.

Despite significant CSR investments in education initiatives, technology adoption in Karnataka classrooms remains limited. Experts highlighted AI's potential to improve both teaching effectiveness and student engagement.

AI’s Impact in Karnataka Schools

Abhishek Ranjan, head of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) at Brillio, shared an impactful example from Hoskote. There, a teacher trained in AI instructed students for two hours daily across 20 schools. Initially, these students were mostly in C and D grade brackets. After one year, 50 to 60 percent moved up to A and B grades.

This case shows how targeted AI integration, combined with dedicated teaching, can significantly uplift student performance—a clear signal for executives and education strategists looking to optimize CSR efforts.

Teachers Must Use AI to Stay Relevant

Surendran M Krishnan, CSR manager for a Canada-based consultancy, warned that teachers who don't incorporate AI risk being left behind—not replaced, but certainly outpaced. He emphasized that AI should be seen as a creative tool to innovate and engage students rather than a threat to educators' roles.

“If students like you, they look up to you. Teachers need to leverage AI for creativity and innovation, not fear it as a replacement,” Krishnan said.

Practical Takeaways for Executives and Strategy Professionals

  • Promote AI training for teachers as part of CSR initiatives to improve educational outcomes.
  • Focus on AI as an enabler of personalized and engaging teaching methods rather than a technology replacement.
  • Track measurable results, like improved student grades, to justify further investment in AI-driven education projects.
  • Encourage collaboration between CSR teams, educators, and tech experts to design effective AI integration strategies.

For executives shaping CSR strategies, supporting AI adoption in education offers a pathway to meaningful social impact while preparing students and teachers for future challenges.
