AI-Powered Shopping Now Outconverts Traditional Search
Shoppers directed to products through AI tools are more likely to complete a purchase than those arriving via search engines, according to data from Adobe tracking UK retail sites in May.
The AI shopping conversion rate-the percentage of visitors using AI chatbots or assistants who then buy-jumped 182% year-on-year and 543% since January 2023. AI-driven traffic to retail sites grew 393% in the first quarter of 2025 compared with the same period last year.
The shift reflects how shoppers now interact with product discovery. Instead of typing keywords and scrolling results, they ask AI a question and receive a single answer with a direct purchase link.
Consumer Trust Is Driving Adoption
Thirty-seven percent of UK consumers have already used an AI assistant for online shopping. Most use it for research (43%) and product recommendations (40%).
Sixty-five percent of those users trust AI to deliver accurate results. Seventy percent now rely on AI as their primary source for product research.
Vivek Pandya, director of Adobe Digital Insights, said: "As shoppers have learned to trust AI tools, they feel more assured about their purchases and return fewer items. AI traffic is increasingly consistent in converting better than traditional channels and adoption continues to accelerate."
