Anthropic Releases Financial Tools as CEO Warns of Software Disruption
Anthropic launched 10 AI agents for financial services on Tuesday, expanding its push into banking and insurance as CEO Dario Amodei predicted that some software companies will fail to compete with AI-powered alternatives.
The new agents automate tasks including pitchbook creation, statement audits, and credit memo drafting. Anthropic also announced expanded data sources for its Claude AI model to handle financial work.
The company announced its first-quarter revenue grew 80x on an annualized basis. Financial institutions now represent 40% of Anthropic's top 50 customers and its second-largest revenue source after technology clients.
Who's Already Using This
Goldman Sachs, Visa, Citi, and AIG have adopted Anthropic's tools. Banks have specifically sought out Anthropic's Claude Mythos model to strengthen cybersecurity defenses. Amodei said the model has likely identified tens of thousands of vulnerabilities across industries.
What Happens to Software Companies
Amodei said AI will make software development cheaper and grow the industry overall. But he offered a blunt assessment of existing software-as-a-service companies: some will "lose market value, go bankrupt, completely go bust."
Companies that address AI directly can perform better than ever, he said. Those that don't face significant risk.
Amodei spoke onstage with JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, who acknowledged that AI's job impacts are "a legitimate concern" while saying the technology will improve lives overall.
How Anthropic Plans to Deepen Finance Work
The new agents integrate with Claude Code and Cowork software and can be customized to match a firm's policies and style. Nicholas Lin, who leads Anthropic's financial services product work, said Claude will develop "vertical-specific intelligence" for finance even as it remains broadly applicable across industries.
Model improvements, hands-on customer support, and office software integrations are driving adoption growth, Lin said.
Amodei also called for legislation or rules governing the release of powerful AI models, citing security concerns.
