AriBio Joins Eli Lilly's AI Drug Discovery Platform

AriBio announced Friday that it has joined Lilly TuneLab, an AI-powered drug discovery platform built on Eli Lilly's proprietary research data. The collaboration gives AriBio access to machine learning models trained on decades of Lilly data, including pharmacokinetic information, safety assessments, and molecular structures.

Lilly TuneLab uses a federated learning framework that lets participating companies contribute to model development while keeping their own datasets private. This approach addresses a core challenge in generative AI and LLM applications: how to train on sensitive data without exposing it.

How AriBio Will Use the Platform

AriBio operates ARIDD, its own AI for IT & Development platform for identifying drug candidates with multiple targets. The company plans to integrate ARIDD with Lilly TuneLab to support drug discovery, target validation, and clinical development.

The collaboration focuses on neuroscience. AriBio's pipeline includes AR1001, an oral treatment candidate for Alzheimer's disease, and AR1005 for dementia with Lewy bodies, currently in phase 2 testing.

CEO Jung Jae-jun said the partnership would strengthen data-driven decisions across AriBio's neuroscience programs. "The datasets generated through our proprietary programs represent important assets for AI-driven drug development," he said.

Technical Architecture

Lilly TuneLab's federated learning framework is the technical centerpiece. Rather than moving proprietary data to a central location, the platform trains models across distributed datasets-each company keeps control of its information while contributing to shared model improvement.

This approach reduces privacy risks and regulatory friction, making it practical for biotech companies working with sensitive research data.

Broader Context

AriBio is also pursuing a merger with Solux to expand its biotechnology platform business, suggesting the company is positioning itself as both a drug developer and a platform provider.
