Arizona State University placed fourth among U.S. public universities in the Digital Leaders in Higher Education Survey, released July 8 by consulting firm Emerging. The survey, which ranked ASU 17th nationally among all universities and 53rd globally, tracks the career paths of more than 200,000 graduates to identify schools that produce digital and AI-ready leaders.
"As AI reshapes our workforce, our economy and our daily lives, now more than ever we need leaders who not only possess technical expertise in AI and digital technologies, but also the critical thinking and principled innovation required to ensure that humanity is well served by the technologies we develop," said Nancy Gonzales, executive vice president and university provost. "Preparing our graduates to be ethical and transformational digital leaders is ASU's goal, and we are proud to be recognized as a university developing such leaders."

Why this matters for IT and development professionals
The rankings signal where employers may find graduates with the blend of technical AI skills and strategic thinking highlighted in the survey. ASU's strong placement in digital transformation management and entrepreneurship suggests its graduates are equipped to bridge technical implementation and business strategy-a combination in high demand as organizations adopt AI tools. For IT hiring managers and developers tracking talent pipelines, these subcategory strengths point to a university that produces professionals who can move beyond coding into leadership roles that shape how AI gets deployed across teams.
