Armenia Reaches Global Finals for Public School AI Education Program
Armenia's "Generation AI" school network has been named a Top-2 finalist in the Impact category at the ASU+GSV Education Innovation Showcase in San Diego. The program embeds tuition-free AI education directly into public high schools across the country through a partnership between the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST) and Armenia's Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports.
Armenia was the only non-U.S. country to advance to the finals, selected from 110 global applicants. It marks the first international finalist in the award's four-year history.
What Sets Generation AI Apart
The program delivers AI instruction as part of the standard public school curriculum rather than as an optional add-on. Students access advanced training without tuition barriers, making the education available across socioeconomic lines.
The initiative addresses a practical gap in education systems worldwide. As countries work to integrate AI into classrooms, most lack the infrastructure and teacher preparation to do so at scale. Generation AI tackles both by building directly into existing school networks.
Recognition and Next Steps
Zhanna Andreasyan, Armenia's Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, said the recognition validates the country's public education system as a source of innovation. "Generation AI is becoming one of Armenia's flagship education initiatives," she said.
Suzanna Shamakhyan, Executive Director of FAST, framed the finalist status as evidence that Armenia has credibility in AI education policy. "We are building a scalable, future-oriented model that integrates AI into public education-and we aim to make it accessible to students globally," she said.
For educators considering how to approach AI in their own schools, resources like an AI for Education overview or an AI Learning Path for Teachers can help build the foundation needed to implement similar programs.
