Associated Bank Launches AI Academy to Boost Milwaukee Youth Education

Associated Banc-Corp has introduced a new initiative, the Associated Bank AI Academy, aimed at equipping Milwaukee youth with essential skills in artificial intelligence (AI) and financial literacy. This six-week summer program is a collaborative effort with Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and Milky Way Tech Hub, targeting students in sixth through eighth grades.

Program Focus and Structure

Led by Terry L. Williams, chief information officer at Associated Bank, the AI Academy is integrated into the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee's curriculum. It offers hands-on instruction in prompt engineering using tools like ChatGPT, fundamentals of data science, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. Each week builds on the previous, creating a comprehensive learning experience that combines technology and practical money management skills.

To encourage engagement, students earn "Associated Bank Bucks" based on their participation and performance. These incentives can be redeemed for Associated Bank merchandise and other rewards, making the program both educational and enjoyable.

Partnership and Community Impact

Milky Way Tech Hub supports the facilitation of classes, while the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee host the sessions at one of their local centers. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to providing equitable access to education and empowering youth with skills that matter.

Jeff Snell, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, emphasized the need for innovative, engaging, and relevant programs. He highlighted the AI Academy as a pioneering effort in Wisconsin, offering a clear career pathway and inspiring young learners to become responsible and productive citizens.

Program Launch and Future Plans

The pilot program begins on July 7 with a cohort of 15โ€“20 students. Sessions will be delivered by Milky Way Tech Hub facilitators alongside Associated Bank employee volunteers. The program will conclude with a celebration at the Associated Bank River Center.

Following the pilot, plans are already underway to expand the initiative. Associated Bank and Milky Way Tech Hub are also developing co-branded materials to promote the program citywide.
