Boston Mayor Wu Selected for Global AI Governance Forum
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has been chosen to join a new forum of world mayors focused on shaping how cities use and regulate artificial intelligence. The Mayors AI Forum, announced Tuesday at the Bloomberg CityLab Summit in Madrid, will convene leaders from major tech hubs to discuss AI policy at the local government level.
The forum includes 10 mayors from cities across the globe: San Antonio, San Francisco, Bogotรก, Buenos Aires, Kyiv, London, Madrid, Nairobi, and Tokyo. Additional members may join over time.
"Local governments must set the frameworks to shape the use and impacts of these technologies for the protection and benefit of our communities," Wu said in a statement.
The group will meet with technology executives and policymakers to explore how AI affects local economies and how cities can deploy it to serve residents better. Michael Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies, said mayors have historically led on global challenges before national governments acted.
Boston's AI Track Record
Wu recently announced that Boston Public Schools would integrate AI into its curriculum to prepare students for an AI-shaped future. The mayor's participation in the forum reflects her growing profile on technology and policy issues at the national level.
For government officials working on AI adoption, resources like the AI for Government guide and the AI Learning Path for Policy Makers offer practical frameworks for understanding how AI fits into municipal operations and governance.
