Daegu Opens Medical Data Portal for AI Device Companies
The Daegu Metropolitan Government launched a platform this month containing 250,000 medical records to help AI healthcare device makers develop and test their products. The K-Medical Data Intermediation Portal, operated by the Daegu Digital Innovation Promotion Agency, provides access to clinical data from regional hospitals and plans to expand nationwide.
The portal holds imaging data-CT and MRI scans for neurological and cardiovascular conditions-alongside structured patient biosignals and diagnostic information. Companies can query and apply for access to specific datasets to train and validate their AI solutions.
Early Commercial Results
Four years into the project, participating companies have moved toward market entry. Shilla System, XCube, and Beamworks obtained or applied for medical device approvals in domestic and international markets for AI tools targeting spine, cardiovascular, and breast cancer applications.
Two other companies demonstrated commercial traction. Indertech signed a 200 million won supply contract at the MEDICA trade show in Germany. BioLink secured purchase commitments from 10 hospitals.
Network Expansion Plans
Daegu plans to expand partner hospitals through the AI-Bio Medicity Daegu Council and regional consortiums in Daejeon and Gwangju. The expansion aims to diversify available data and reduce development timelines for companies building AI for Healthcare applications.
The project involves Kyungpook National University Hospital, Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center, the Korea Testing Laboratory, and Daegu Technopark. Seo Gwi-yong, director of the Medical Industry Division at Daegu Metropolitan Government, said the council will coordinate the expansion across regions.
Healthcare organizations evaluating AI Data Analysis tools should monitor how regional data platforms affect product development cycles and regulatory pathways in their markets.
