Global Payments Launches AI Handheld for Restaurant Operations
Global Payments unveiled an AI-first Genius handheld device on May 13, 2026, designed to streamline order-taking and payment processing in high-volume restaurant environments. The device includes voice-ordering technology that lets servers speak naturally with customers while the system builds tickets in the background, even in noisy kitchens and dining areas.
The voice feature addresses a practical problem: servers spend mental energy transcribing orders instead of engaging with customers. By automating that step, the system reduces cognitive load and frees staff to focus on service.
Early Adoption at Scale
CKE Restaurants Holdings, which operates Hardee's and Carl's Jr., selected Global Payments as its exclusive point-of-sale provider on May 11, 2026. The company will deploy Genius across more than 2,400 corporate and franchise locations in the U.S.
David Rumph, president of Global Payments' small-to-midsize business division, described Genius as "highly configurable and scalable," meaning operations teams can customize the system to match their specific workflows rather than forcing restaurants into a standard setup.
Financial Performance
Global Payments reported first-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $2.96, beating analyst expectations of $2.81. Adjusted revenue reached $2.86 billion, above the consensus estimate of $2.82 billion.
CEO Cameron Bready attributed the results to early momentum from Genius expansion and integration of Worldpay, the company's acquired payment platform.
