Goa University Launches Advanced AI Laboratory to Boost Research
Goa University has set up an Advanced Artificial Intelligence (AAI) laboratory within its research park, known as GURU, located in the science block of the campus. This new facility is expected to support emerging scholars in conducting advanced AI research and generating large-scale, high-quality datasets.
The GURU research park already hosts incubators focusing on bioengineering, health, and IT sectors, providing a platform where innovations can be validated and scaled for commercial use. The addition of the AI lab expands the parkβs capacity to support researchers working on AI technologies.
Industry Collaboration Strengthens Research and Training
The AAI lab was established following a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Goa University and Sony Research India on August 14. This marks the first industry-supported lab at the university, aiming to enhance research, training, and outreach through workshops, seminars, and other educational activities.
Researchers from Sony Research India will collaborate on joint projects, deliver guest lectures, and provide expert guidance on AI research, particularly focusing on advanced AI for multimodal data. This partnership is set to build long-term research innovation and skill development in AI and related fields at Goa University.
New Academic Programs Complement Research Infrastructure
In alignment with these developments, Goa University recently introduced two new MSc courses: a two-year MSc in Artificial Intelligence and an MSc in Data Science. These programs are open to students holding bachelor's degrees in computer science, computer applications, computer engineering, IT, mathematics, statistics, or electronics.
The launch of these academic programs alongside the new AI lab offers students and researchers enhanced opportunities to develop expertise and contribute to AI advancements.
