Google and UNICEF to train Assam teachers in AI classroom tools
Google and UNICEF will launch an "AI Educator Series" in Assam to train teachers how to use artificial intelligence tools in the classroom, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced Sunday.
The programme aims to equip educators with skills to integrate AI-based tools into lessons, making classroom learning more interactive and efficient. Teachers will learn to use digital learning tools and understand emerging AI technologies to improve student engagement and outcomes.
Sarma said the state cannot afford to miss opportunities from the technological shift. "AI is fast reshaping every avenue," he said in a post on X.
What teachers will learn
The initiative will help educators personalise lessons and monitor student performance more effectively. Teachers will also gain skills to adapt to evolving educational requirements in a technology-driven environment.
Officials expect the programme to focus on modern teaching practices and improved access to quality educational resources.
Part of broader digital push
The announcement reflects Assam's wider effort to modernise its education system. In recent years, the state government has launched initiatives to strengthen digital infrastructure, expand smart classroom facilities and promote innovation-driven education models.
The collaboration comes as governments and educational institutions across India increasingly explore AI tools to improve teaching methods, administrative efficiency and learning experiences.
Educators interested in AI-enabled teaching methods can explore resources on AI for Education or follow the AI Learning Path for Teachers to develop relevant skills.
