Google Cloud positions Gemini as the control center for enterprise AI

Google Cloud announced a suite of tools designed to move artificial intelligence from isolated experiments into company-wide operations. The company introduced the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, new hardware, and management features intended to give enterprises a central command system for AI agents running across their organizations.

The announcements came during Google Cloud Next in Las Vegas, where executives framed the shift as moving beyond pilot projects into production deployment.

Building oversight into agents

A core problem Google is addressing: AI agents built by different teams operate in silos, making them difficult to monitor and control. The new Gemini Enterprise application adds an "Inbox" feature that centralizes agent management, giving operations teams visibility into what agents are doing across the business.

Google also released the Data Agent Kit, which lets data engineers build agents using their existing tools, and a shared workspace called Projects that transforms Gemini from a solo assistant into a collaborative tool.

Security features accompany these tools. New governance controls and identity solutions let operations teams enforce policies on how agents behave and what data they access.

Hardware built for the workload

Running large language models at scale requires specialized processors. Google introduced two new tensor processing units (TPUs) designed specifically for Gemini workloads.

The TPU 8t targets model training, compressing what previously took months into weeks. The TPU 8i focuses on inference-the part where models generate responses-by expanding memory capacity and reducing latency in text generation.

Both chips address bottlenecks that have slowed AI deployment. Memory bandwidth and latency have been consistent obstacles for enterprises running production AI systems.

The operating system play

Google's strategy reflects a broader shift in how cloud providers compete. Rather than selling computing power alone, companies now compete on providing the control layer where AI actually gets built and managed.

Google executives used the phrase "mission control" repeatedly, emphasizing that their stack-from chips to security to agent orchestration-creates a unified system. This matters for operations teams because it means fewer integration points and clearer accountability when things break.

Alphabet reported 48% year-over-year revenue growth for its cloud business in Q4 2025, the fastest rate among the major cloud providers. Cloud backlog grew 55% quarter-over-quarter, suggesting sustained customer demand for these services.

What this means for operations

For operations professionals, Google's announcements signal that AI tooling is maturing beyond the proof-of-concept stage. The focus on agent management, governance, and observability directly addresses problems operations teams face when deploying AI at scale.

The ability to orchestrate multiple agents, enforce policies, and track their behavior becomes critical as companies move from running a few AI experiments to embedding AI throughout their workflows.
