Google Search Console to Display AI Mode Performance Without Separate Breakdown

Google has confirmed that performance data for AI Mode will be included in Search Console's Performance reports. However, you won’t be able to isolate this data from other Google search surfaces like traditional web search or AI Overviews.

AI Mode was rolled out to all U.S. searchers recently. When it first launched in Labs back in March, Google stated that AI Mode data wouldn’t be reported in Search Console. Now that AI Mode is out of Labs, performance data will start appearing in Search Console, but only as part of the combined overall search traffic.

What Google Has Stated

John Mueller from Google clarified that AI Mode reporting is not live yet but will be soon included in Search Console as part of the AI Mode rollout. Importantly, there won’t be a separate breakdown for AI Mode data, nor will there be changes to the API. The reporting will be integrated within the existing “Web” search type in the Performance report.

The updated help document explains:

  • Sites appearing in AI features (like AI Overviews and AI Mode) are counted within the overall search traffic.
  • AI Mode reporting isn’t live yet but is expected soon.
  • Performance data for AI Mode will appear under the “Web” search type in Search Console.

Challenges in Tracking AI Mode

An existing bug is affecting the ability to track AI Mode data properly. Google is working on fixing this, but for now, it remains nearly impossible to track AI Mode accurately within Search Console.

Additionally, even with ads live in AI Overviews and under testing in AI Mode, there is no way to track ad performance separately within these AI-driven experiences. This lack of transparency contrasts with Google's earlier promises of control and clarity for marketers.

Why This Matters

AI Mode represents an important shift in how search works. Yet, the inability to break out and analyze performance data—both organic and paid—limits marketers and webmasters from understanding how their campaigns perform in this new environment.

Being able to access detailed data by search surface is critical for optimizing strategies and measuring ROI. Currently, the combined data in Search Console doesn’t offer this granularity, and Google has indicated no plans to change this in the near future.
