GS Group Accelerates AI-Driven Business Transformation
GS Group, a major South Korean conglomerate spanning retail to energy sectors, has announced a comprehensive shift to an artificial intelligence-led business model. This initiative aims to address the slowing performance seen across its key subsidiaries.
Chairman Heo Tae-soo outlined the strategic direction during the group’s mid-year meeting held in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province. He emphasized that the vast knowledge and data accumulated across the company’s operations represent its most valuable assets. Integrating these assets through AI to foster collaboration and develop new business opportunities is now a core priority.
Technology at the Core of Strategy
Heo stressed the need to move beyond viewing technology as just a tool. Instead, it must be central to the group’s strategy to fundamentally transform business operations. This shift involves rigorous exploration of AI applications across all subsidiaries.
About 150 executives, including CEOs of major subsidiaries, gathered to assess and plan for the second half of 2025. The chairman highlighted recent advances in AI technology and pointed to physical AI—incorporating robotics and streamlining production processes—as a key turning point for the group.
Building an AI Innovation Engine
GS Group is developing its proprietary AI platform to drive internal innovation. Beyond internal efforts, the chairman called for a more strategic and execution-focused approach to mergers and acquisitions. He urged subsidiaries to actively pursue meaningful deals and strengthen strategic partnerships within the venture ecosystem to build a solid foundation for future growth.
