Hitachi and Astemo Partner on Autonomous Vehicle AI Platform
Hitachi Ltd. and Astemo Ltd. will develop artificial intelligence for self-driving cars, the companies said Wednesday. Hitachi is a Japanese machinery maker. Astemo, a Honda Motor Co. affiliate, manufactures automotive parts.
The two companies plan to launch an AI development platform by March 2027. They intend to license the technology to other automakers and suppliers after completion.
What Each Company Brings
Hitachi contributes its digital twin technology, which creates virtual models of real-world environments. Astemo provides vehicle control systems built from years of automotive development.
The partnership combines these capabilities into a single platform for faster AI training and testing.
Automating the Development Process
The companies plan to use autonomous AI agents to automate development processes. This approach reduces manual work in building and refining autonomous driving systems.
For development teams, this means less time on repetitive tasks and more focus on solving specific technical problems in vehicle control and perception.
Why This Matters for Developers
Development platforms for autonomous vehicles typically require expensive infrastructure and specialized expertise. A shared platform lowers barriers for companies without in-house autonomous driving teams.
If you work in automotive software or AI systems, understanding how AI tools integrate into development workflows is increasingly relevant to your role.
