HKU and Beijing Launch Comprehensive AI Technologies Report
On 31 July, the Information and Electronics Engineering Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the China Information and Electronics Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy Research Center jointly released a detailed report titled "AI Technologies for the Next Generation of Information Engineering Science and Technology." This event took place simultaneously in Beijing and Hong Kong, highlighting the strategic importance of AI development in China.
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) hosted the Hong Kong press conference, which was broadcast live alongside the Beijing event. Over 100 academics and students attended, including Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, and Professor Max Shen, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) of HKU. The conference was led by Academician Aiguo Fei, Director of the Information and Electronics Engineering Division of the CAE.
Strategic Intent Behind the Report
President Xiaohong Li of the CAE emphasized that the report intends to align artificial intelligence development with the nation's strategic goals. The focus is on integrating AI deeply with traditional industries to drive both incremental improvements and breakthroughs in emerging sectors. This process also involves leveraging the collective expertise of CAE members to provide actionable insights that support informed decision-making across scientific and industrial fields.

Academician Aiguo Fei presented the core components of the report, which include:
- A List of Emerging Industry and Future Industry Technologies Related to AI comprising 163 entries
- A List of Industry Upgrade and Cross-Disciplinary Technologies Related to AI containing 122 entries
- A List of Predicted AI Hot Technologies highlighting 12 key areas
The report reflects extensive consultation, drawing from 58 previously published blue books, input from over 300 experts across 13 subfields, and more than 20 strategic consulting projects conducted by the CAE.
