Hong Kong Schools Launch Major AI Education Push With Industry Partnerships

Hong Kong is integrating artificial intelligence across more than 500 primary and secondary schools through a new initiative led by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC). The programme, developed with eight academic organisations, combines AI for Education with teacher training and direct industry engagement to build digital literacy among students.

The move reflects Hong Kong's strategy to position itself as a hub for technology talent and strengthen its digital workforce capabilities.

What Schools Will Receive

HKPC will provide schools with several diagnostic and support services. An "AI in Schools Health Check" will assess how ready institutions are to adopt AI, examining governance structures, data privacy practices, infrastructure and baseline literacy among teachers, students and parents.

Schools will also access workshops on safe and responsible AI use, practical evaluation checklists for AI solutions covering security and ethics, and organised visits to technology companies for students.

Teacher Training and Curriculum Development

Five memoranda of understanding signed with eight academic organisations focus on preparing educators to teach AI effectively. The Catholic Education Office will develop curriculum materials combining technical knowledge with ethical reasoning under the concept of "Moral AI."

The Hong Kong Computer Education Society will create AI teaching materials and strengthen professional training for teachers. A separate agreement introduces a STEAM instructor training programme designed to address teacher shortages and support cross-disciplinary learning.

Educators seeking structured support can access the AI Learning Path for Teachers, which aligns with these professional development efforts.

Early Results and Upcoming Events

A pilot programme launched at Hong Kong Management Association Lee Kwok Po Secondary School includes teacher training, student literacy courses and parent workshops focused on ethical awareness and practical skills.

During the 2025-2026 academic year, HKPC's Productivity Academy delivered more than 1,100 training activities to over 60,000 participants. Around 350 of these events focused specifically on AI.

HKPC will host an "Innovation and Technology Study Tour" on 3-4 July 2026 with the theme "AI for All: Creating a Smart Future," featuring workshops and exhibitions for students, educators, parents and industry representatives.
