Imo journalists to train on AI use in sports reporting
Sports journalists in Imo State will attend a training session on using artificial intelligence responsibly in reporting. The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo Chapter, hosts the workshop on May 12, 2026 at OtownGist Media and Creative Hub in Owerri.
The session, titled "Ethics & Professionalism in the Generative AI Era," will cover practical applications of generative AI and LLM tools for sports coverage. Participants will learn how to use AI for match reports, interview transcription, content creation, and digital distribution without compromising accuracy or credibility.
What the training covers
Chinedu Hardy Nwadike, founder of OtownGist Media and Creative Hub, will lead the workshop. He will demonstrate how AI fits into real-time newsroom operations.
The training emphasizes three core principles:
- Accuracy and fact verification
- Originality and editorial integrity
- Responsible AI use in a changing media environment
Rather than treating AI as a replacement for reporting, the session frames these tools as efficiency aids. Journalists will see live demonstrations of how AI can speed up routine tasks while maintaining the editorial standards that define professional journalism.
For writers and journalists working in sports media, the training addresses a practical challenge: how to adopt new tools without losing the judgment and verification skills that readers depend on.
