India's Education System Adds AI Tools as Government Pushes Digital Learning
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Monday that India's education system is moving toward AI integration across multiple areas, citing a newly launched teacher app as evidence of the shift.
The app, developed with the Bharti Airtel Foundation and introduced in November 2024, now has a second version built in partnership with the CK-12 Foundation. Pradhan described the tools as part of a broader effort to modernize education while maintaining Indian cultural values.
The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stated goal of "decolonizing" India's education system by 2035, Pradhan said. He framed the push as ensuring the education system reflects India's own identity and heritage, rather than imported models.
The government is implementing these changes through the National Education Policy, according to Pradhan.
Philosophy and AI Ethics in Focus
Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal highlighted a separate discussion on how Indian philosophical thought can guide the ethical use of AI and other modern technologies.
The seminar examined the philosophy of Ekatma Manav Darshan, developed by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, and its relevance to an AI-driven world. Meghwal said the discussion centered on using Indian philosophical principles to shape balanced technology adoption.
Meghwal also said the Prime Minister consistently emphasizes national security in public remarks, reflecting what he called the government's commitment to the country's safety.
