Kazakhstan allocates 177 billion tenge to AI and digitalization in 2026
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry will spend 177.1 billion tenge this year on artificial intelligence and digitalization projects, the ministry said on May 25.
The budget covers digital infrastructure, AI technology deployment, regional digitalization efforts, rural internet access, and digital tools for schools. The ministry framed the spending as essential to developing the country's digital ecosystem and broadening public access to modern technology.
Where the money goes
The allocation targets four main areas. Digital infrastructure receives funding to build foundational systems. AI implementation projects get resources to integrate machine learning and automated systems into government and business operations.
Regional digitalization efforts aim to close gaps between urban and rural areas. Rural internet access remains a priority, as does developing educational technology solutions for schools.
What this means for IT professionals
The scale of spending signals sustained demand for developers and engineers who can build AI systems and digital infrastructure. Organizations working on these projects will need people with expertise in cloud systems, data engineering, and AI integration.
For those building skills in this space, understanding both generative AI and LLM technologies and practical AI for IT and development will be relevant as these initiatives move from planning to execution.
