Netflix is building an in-house animation studio that will use generative AI to produce short-form video content. The studio, called INKubator, is actively recruiting producers, software engineers, CG artists, and other specialists, according to job postings reviewed by The Verge.

Serrena Iyer, who held executive roles at DreamWorks Animation, MRC Studios, and A24 Films, leads the project. Netflix has not officially announced INKubator, and the company did not respond to requests for comment.

The studio appears to have begun operations quietly in March, based on LinkedIn activity. Job descriptions position INKubator as a "next-generation GenAI animation studio" that combines technological innovation with creative storytelling.

Strategy and scope

INKubator represents Netflix's broader push to integrate AI into content production. The company acquired Ben Affleck's InterPositive startup earlier this year, though that firm focuses on post-production work. INKubator takes a different approach.

The studio's technology roadmap emphasizes generative video tools, artist-focused software, and scalable production infrastructure for simultaneous projects. While the initial focus is short films and animated specials, job postings mention plans for feature-length content.

Netflix has multiple distribution channels in mind. The company recently added a vertical feed called Clips to its mobile app, modeled on TikTok, currently showing trailers and promotional content. The platform could eventually host AI-generated short stories.

What this means for strategy leaders

This move signals how major media companies are embedding AI into core production workflows, not just using it for peripheral tasks. For executives evaluating AI adoption, Netflix's approach-hiring specialized talent, building dedicated infrastructure, and planning for scale-mirrors the operational decisions required across industries.

The hiring pattern also matters: Netflix is recruiting technologists and creative professionals simultaneously, suggesting the company views AI animation as requiring both technical depth and artistic judgment.
