Pearson Launches AI Modules Targeting Skills Gap Between College and Workplace
Pearson announced new AI modules designed to help college students build practical AI skills within their field of study. The modules, available internationally and launching in the United States by August 1, embed AI training directly into courses across more than 20 disciplines including business, health, science, and social sciences.
Students who complete the modules earn Credly badges-digital credentials that signal job-ready AI proficiency to employers.
The Gap Pearson Is Addressing
Research from Pearson and AWS found a mismatch between what students learn about AI in college and what employers need in the workforce. Many graduates lack hands-on experience applying AI tools in their specific field, which employers cite as a major barrier to hiring and productivity.
"Access to AI alone isn't enough," said Tom ap Simon, President of Pearson Higher Education. "Students need structured opportunities to apply it in real-world contexts."
How the Modules Work
The AI modules integrate applied scenarios, real-world use cases, and guided practice into existing coursework. By embedding AI directly into subject matter, students understand how AI functions in their discipline and develop confidence to apply it responsibly.
The modules are available in MyLab and Mastering, Pearson's digital learning platforms. They complement separate AI Literacy Modules that teach educators about ethical and responsible AI practices.
Part of a Broader Strategy
This launch builds on Pearson's wider AI learning ecosystem, which combines learning science, subject matter expertise, and responsible AI design. The company applies generative AI and large language models backed by learning science and vetted by subject matter experts.
